The vivosmart was delivered promptly and was as described. The vivosmart hr+ has some problems in that it fails to connect to the garmin connect mobile app on a more or less random basis. Garmin acknowledge that there is a problem and so the supplier is not to blame.
I like the good time keeping and foot step counter. It’s a bit chunky gets caught in clothing and sometimes hard to see numbers poor light.
Functionally, i love this watch. I also have a fitbit charge 2 and i think the garmin is superior, so the fitbit is back in the box. Sync with garmin connect for android was difficult to get working (followed some advice online to use sync assist which was perfect), but now works flawlessly. Much more customisable than the fitbit, you can change what data is displayed on the screen. The purple colour is really cool. It has a higher profile than the fitbit so you may find you bang it against stuff during normal activity. But it’s not cumbersome, and fits very comfortably. The garmin is definitely the best choice for people who love looking at a lot of data. The heart rate monitor i’ve found to be extremely accurate (when tested against a chest strap, almost exactly the same readings). My only negatives:-scratches easily.
The watch itself is great but the strap broke very quickly and now the band holding the strap has snapped – learned that the straps are very expensive so not worth replacing.
I struggled to pick between the vivo series and forerunner and i regret my decision. I have had a lot of difficulty with gps (taking ages to load, not loading, etc). I now have more luck by sitting it outside a window. The app is not the easiest thing to work but for a while i couldn’t get any activity to download at all. I’ve discovered your phone must not have bluetooth switched on until the app is opened. It also doesn’t have a lap button (only auto lap for 1km/1mile). I didn’t think i really needed this feature until i didn’t have it anymore. It’s very easy to finish an activity early by accident with the touch screen feature. The design is nice and i like my purple colour (black with purple at the sides of watch).
Been working perfectly since i got it and does what it says on the tin. Im a garmin fan boy with all my running/cycleing gear from them as it nicely ties in with garmin connect and all data is easily accessible from one user friendly interface on the pc or on your phone.
Forget fitbit, this was great value for money considering it had inbuilt gps and heart rate monitor making it great for recording runs. Bought it for my wife and its lasted 2 years so far. She wanted something for step counting this it offers so much more.
I’ve had this for well over a year and it’s excellent. I wanted a tracker which was truly waterproof for swimming, idiotproof and could tell me the time without feeling i was wearing big ben. It does all of that and has helped me track my heart rate during a worrying health scare. Excellent piece of kit, especially if you link it to myfitnesspal for insights.
- Edges out the FitBit
- Stairs climbed is totally useless, often it doesn’t register several flights of stairs
- Great

Bought this for my girlfriend as she loves running but hates anything bulky on her wrists. I thought this would be a good entry into gps trackers. She tracks her runs, hikes and monitors her heart beat and steps. We both have been training for a half marathon and i don’t think she will go back to not having any device on her now. She says the fitting is perfect for her small wrists and the styling suits most her clothes.
Was going to be a perfect review but have just sent one back and had it replaced after it decided it no longer wanted to connect via bluetooth. Lets hope this one is better.
Only had this product for 2 days and already the weather feature doesn’t work and also the counting stairs doesn’t work other than that i’m not sure how the other options will be reliable.
Works really well and highly accurate as checked against separate gps devices. Very good connectivity across 3rd party apps. This last point is very important to me as this device syncs seamlessly with under armour suite especially myfitnesspal which i use intensely.
Pros: for gps it doesn’t cost too much good website features generally works wellcons: a little bulky on the wrist and hard to access under the cuff of a sleeve in cold weather. You have to hit ‘stop’ and ‘save’ after a run to actually save the data. I’ve lost some run data for not hitting the ‘save’ button in time.
First week in and i am quite happy with functionalities and reliability. Here are the main findings:1. The interface is simple and responsive. On the contrary to many other reviews, i find the gps signal locking is reasonably fast. I can normally get a fix within 5 mins, sometimes even in less than 1 min. I am not sure if geological location makes any difference in this case. The step counts for both running and walking are on the conservative side. A half an hour run eats up a quater of the battery. So i think one charge will give you a maximum of three days’ usage, if running daily.
I got this because of the waterproof also with a built in gps it maps all outdoor activities. I use it for rowing, hockey football, cycling & open water swimming. The app is really good and it even allows notifications without being oversized on the wrist. Increases my fitness just by making me compete against myself.
It’s easy to use, has great features and the app is so user-friendly, but careful with the screen it’s very fragile and breaks easily also very expensive to replace. The gps takes forever to turn on, it’s a big fault in my opinion.
This suits my perfectly for daily use while giving me excellent gps to run to and from work. Although not as exhaustive as the dedicated running watches it nevertheless has cadence and stride length and the wrist based hrm is very close to what my garmin chest strap reports. The software needs improvement, though functional it seems to glitch often with the witch’s settings. I’ve had to reset it after the backlight stopped working on tapping the device.
Ordered for spouse, so very less hands on. The leather strap is flexible and stretches. In a way it is good as there isn’t much pressure on wrist but need to look out how long the strap can retain its elasticity. Looks aren’t so great but one can bet on the performance.
Battery life seems short, recharge daily. Easy download and link to computer for all statscycling does not appear on programmes but can be entered as other.
I got this to replace various fitbit devices that continually failed. I have to say that the vivosmart is a fantastic tracker. Loads of features, long battery life, clear display and great functionality.
I’ve had the garmin vivosmart for a few weeks now and i love it. I’m no athlete but i like to go for the odd run as well as monitor my activity levels throughout the day. It’s really easy to use and the display is great, it changes when you’re running so it’s even easier to see (white background). I find the stats really informative and it’s good to be able to see your 7 day averages. The only downside is the battery, not a reason to not buy it but it would be sooo much better to have more warning that it’s on the way out. Just had a run cut short because i hadn’t realised it was so low. Notifications from your smartphone are incessant so i switched these off to try and spare the battery a bit more, maybe made a days difference. Connection to strava with ease.
Garmin vivo*** are chronically unreliable. This one is the first (of 5 that i know about) which hasn’t actually failed – usually screen problems. This one, amazingly, is still working, after about two months. The software needs some effort by garmin- the main screen resolutely shows ‘time’ when i have configured it to show ‘heartbeat’ (works for a while, then reverts to showing me the clock. It doesn’t seem to detect cycling either, which is strange when i use a mountain bike on rough tracks. Otherwise, it works well for activities, weather, notifications, distance, sleep, steps.
I absolutely loved this fitness tracker, however it did not love me. After the first day, i had developed bruises on my wrist where it had been sitting. I have no doubt this was because it was squished under jumpers/ jackets/ lab coats, therefore if you’re just using this while working out then it’s more than 5 stars. However, for everyday use, it’s just too big and bulky. I loved the interface, the garmin connect app, how easy it was to use, absolutely everything except it’s design. Too big too bulky too thick. Such a shame because it’s so great.
Product delivers all that is described. Band very soft and causes skin irritation. Screen scratches very easily. Connectivity to the app is very sporadic and need to be manually sinc-ed multiple times a day.
An adequate fitness tracker, steps are accurate. Stairs climbed is totally useless, often it doesn’t register several flights of stairs, other times it will register stairs when i’m walking on a flat piece of road. Hrm is ok, at rest and light exercise it is fine and this matches my heart strap monitor. Often at higher intensity it is way off. According to the vivosmart i’ve spent an hour at over 180 beats while the chest strap registers 120-130. Sleep tracking seems to be accurate, sleeping and waking times are generally right. My favourite feature is the resting heart rate, this helps me monitor tiredness and general health and gives a good indication of these. While it has faults i think it is generally a good fitness band,.
It helps me watch my heart rate while exercising and although i am not an athlete by any means, it gives me reassurance and peace of mind at this stage in my recovery. I like the move reminders even though i don’t always move. Comparing the measurements to a polar chest strap and they match pretty closely. I am worried about not being able to get a replacement strap if needed meaning it needs to be replaced if it gets broken.
I use the watch for recording my runs and also for daily step counting. I have been using it for 1 month now and can’t fault it. The garmin connect app is also easy to use and links with strava and mfp no problem. The heart rate monitor shows peaks and troughs in line with my workouts but i have no way of confirming its accuracy.
