Pingonaut Children’s Smart Watch Phone : What is German for Watch?

Had no idea how to use it as everything is in german and i couldn’t find where to change the language. If they dont change the language settings this is not suitable to be sold in uk.

I’m only giving this watch 3 out of 5 because of the way it is packaged and set up. But otherwise its a nice little almost smart watch. (please read on to find out more)the watch is well made and easy to read/use*. The battery life seems good – and it is easy to recharge. Now the hmm: this isn’t a true smart watch. It doesn’t run apps or monitor health and fitness etc. What it does is track where your child is via an app on the parents smartphone. You can also call the child through the watch and send them text messages. But the watch can only receive these calls or texrs from permitted phone numbers. It’s basically a low-javk watch for your child.

I’ve awarded 3 stars for this children’s smart watch after quite a bit of testing. Here are my views:pros:- built well and feels tough- always on display- clock is set by the phone network- easy to use app- works with any 2g sim (i bought a giffgaff sim on amazon, which came with £5 free credit). – fairly simple operation- good speaker and microphone- long battery life & easy charging via micro usb- accurate gps tracking via networkcons:- unable to change german display language on watch (update: see info below)- only german instructions in booklet (despite english on box sleeve)- thin plastic display, but recessed- german network sim included (no use elsewhere)- operation may be confusing to young children, particularly without english display-unable to change ringtone or make silent- not a “smart watch” in the traditional sense; more of a gps tracker / phone watch with a linked appshould the language issues be resolved, this could be a good option for parents to get for their children to keep track of them and keep in touch. The app is in english, so it seems strange that the phone doesn’t change to english automatically. I can still recommend it, as long as you are aware of the above language issues if you don’t speak german. I still have no idea what the on-screen messages mean after a call. Update:after contacting pingonaut cs, i now have a solution to the language problem. If only this had been included in the instructions:to change the language of your watch, please, follow these instructions:push a button to activate the display illumination. Now, then, in quick succession, first press and hold the upper and then the lower button simultaneously. A menu appears where you can select your language by pushing the middle button.

This is a great little gadget for keeping you and your child in touch with each other. It’s a handheld watch with a built in mobile phone and tracker. So, if your kid goes off to ply, you can get hold of them, and if they don’t answer, you can track them.

As others have noted the watch comes with german instructions and a german sim inserted into the watch. English instructions are available on the pingonaut website. The watch is set to german and this can be changed in the menu to english, however this is american am/pm style with the date shown as m/d/y; there’s also the option of an analogue watch display. The watch is neatly made, the strap will just about fit an adult wrist, charging is with a micro-usb cable, battery life is charged blamed as 4 days and it certainly managed that. The watch works in conjunction with the pingonaut app which i downloaded from the play store. I registered and then put a giffgaff payg sim into the watch, topped up and the watch then displayed a code which, when entered into the app, bonded the app to the watch. As well as showing the location of the watch, there are options that allow only certain phone numbers to call the watch, programming the numbers that the watch can call and setting up safe zones so that an alert is generated when the watch enters or leaves a zone. Phone numbers have to be entered in the style +44xxxx and, although there was the option of entering more than one i couldn’t get that to work. I set up 2 zones and although it didn’t tell me that i’d left one zone it did tell me i’d entered the other. Locating the watch with the app was quick and accurate.

This is a very interesting and attractive piece of kit. Aimed at child safety, without the need for a mobile phone, which can be much more easily lost or stolen, its main functions give the child the ability to speak on the phone with selected people (both inbound and outbound calls), whose numbers can be programmed into the watch. It also has a gps built in, which means the watch can be located via the downloadable app and, if you choose to program in ‘safe zones’, it will alert you when the child strays out of the safe zone – and it tells the timehowever, getting it set up is a major undertaking. Firstly the instructions are all in german. Fortunately the folks who make the watch are brilliant at getting back to you when you email, sending you the information in english. Then you have the issue of the watch only speaking german. That seemed an insurmountable problem until my son spent some time messing about with buttons and menus and finally worked out how to change the language. And much of the functionality of the phone is pretty much dependent on spending quite a bit of time exploring it, with and without the instructions, and the app, to get into the depth of how to set it up the way you want it – and then ensuring it works the way you hoped. It is very impressive and, with effort, it is an excellent resource, not just for kids, but for anyone who may be likely to get lost or stray from home, perhaps if they have dementia. The size is meant for kids but actually can fit adults with a small or medium sized wrist.

Works fine and location shows very correct. Can see travel history where been. Battery life around week no need charge.

This pingonaut watch is a really good idea, in that it is aimed specifically at children and providing reassurance for parents by providing a number of useful safety features. First, let’s get the obvious out of the way. As some other reviewers have mentioned, this watch is of german origin; the instructions provided are in german, the actual watch uses a german display, and the provided sim card is for a german mobile company. All are able to be sorted easily; i found an english language instruction book online (which included details of how to change the display language), and you simply insert an english sim (in my case ee) in order to use the phone. Putting that to one side, this is a really useful and good-looking watch. While it doesn’t have some of the features one would expect from a smart watch (e. Exercise tracking), what it does, it does well. It has gps tracking so a parent can see where there child is, an sos function, and also receives phone calls – but only from a set list of phone numbers, so you can ensure that only the ‘right’ people are trying to contact the child. All of these are very good, and can give some real peace of mind.

  • There is a solution to the non-English language problem – see my update

  • The watch I received was German only, not UK

  • Has the potential to be brilliant – once the language and instructions issue is solved.

Pingonaut children’s smart watch phone for boys and girlswhen this smart watch arrived i found all instructions were printed in german, but no english?. I hadn’t a clue how to operate this so i contacted the seller. Within minutes the seller responded by sending the correct uk manual to me via email, so top marks to the seller for responding quickly. Reading through the manual, it spoke of a complimentary sim card. But i could find no sim card, apart from an empty sim card holder included in the package. After closer inspection, i realised the sim card had already been pre-installed in the watch. After switching on the phone there was a message on the screen in german, i pressed a different button and received another german message. I could find no way to change the language from german to english. The message appeared to be asking for the pingonaut app to be installed on my phone, this i proceeded to download. After installation and registering an account i tried to pair the watch with the app.

I am not sure where big brother ends and big father starts, but this ‘children’s smart watch’ by pingonaut is not only designed to be a watch for your child but also a way of getting text messages. The ability to use the app to pinpoint the location of your child. I am not the most paranoid of parents, but a gps location tracker could come in handy if something where to happen. The issue lies with the german nature of the phone. Not that it is sturdy and well made (it is), but that the instructions are in german and the provided sim is for that region. All this can be worked around, but when you are spending north of a ton you would expect the ability to read what to do. The instructions are mostly in german. If you are unwilling to go the extra mile you can work out how to make it a rather expensive watch. Otherwise time and effort will be required to get it to do anything else that it is made for.

This is a pink smartwatch aimed at children. I was a bit taken aback when i discovered the instructions and the watch was trying to communicate with me in german. I failed german at school so this was not a welcome sight. A huge thanks to the reviewer who posted the instructions from the company on how to change the language. I do think companies should ensure the language in the box is correct or at least clearly mark the watch as being a german import on the item’s page on amazon. Once i got the watch working i was generally impressed with it. It seems sturdy and robust and i was impressed at how long the battery charge lasted. You can make calls with the watch and you can also use it to track your child’s location (i found that this was very accurate). It doesn’t do that much else although that may be a good thing as you obviously don’t want your child to be downloading lots of dodgy apps. I do think this watch is very overpriced for what you get.

First things first, the phone displays most things in german. This really is not an issue. I couldn’t get the message function to operate, but this could be a german thing. I am using it with an o2 uk sim with no issues, the gps tracking works and using the smartphone app i’ve specified a safe area and when my daughter goes out of the area my phone goes nuts. And with only being able to make and receive calls from specified numbers i have no fear that she’ll never get sales calls.

Well made smart watch and beautiful designcame in german, but you have the option to change the language in english and also came with an international sim that also can be changed. It is comfortable and well made.

This is a basic smartwatch, for a child. You need to purchase a pay as you go micro sim card and insert it in the watch before you can really do anything with it. The cover for this sim slot seems a little loose and i can see small fingers may be tempted to explore and it may get lostonce it is activated you can set up the watch. It has some basic functions such as the ability to make calls and voice messages. Text messages and gps so that you know where your child is at all times while they are wearing the watch. It also has a ‘do not disturb’ function for when the child is in school. It is very well made but i found the design of it rather stiff around the top of the wrist. I would have liked more flexibility in the watch band. It is a very nice sporty design though and sure to be popular. Biggest drawback is that the instructions are entirely in german at this point but i understand from the manufacturer that they are updating this.

I had high hopes for this, but after quite a bit of playing around with it, i can’t recommend. You can change the language to english – assuming that you / your child are not fluent in german. [press and hold the upper and then the lower button together and the menu comes up, then scroll down to english. I installed a giffgaff payg sim and downloaded the pingonaut app. After that, plus a bit more ‘programming’ it was good to go. But i found the gps was not very reliable, and the watch itself is a bit big to wear for a 7 year old with small wrists. I was left thinking that a cheaper smartphone with the right software / tel numbers installed was probably a better way to go. For children, i think this will only have a limited lifespan as they will want a phone by the time they are 10 anyway. So maybe better that they get used to one that has been set up especially for them with a tracker app and restricted site / app and phone number access. If this was half the price i might be tempted – but i think the seller would have to set it up for an english market – or else a lot of buyers will be disappointed with the amount of fiddling that is required. ]

As others have already stated, this watch is set up as german as the main language. But you can change it to english (another reviewer has posted how to do this). It’s fairly simple to change the language, but to be honest if i was buying a kids smart watch, i think i’d buy one already set up in english with english instructions as it’s less hassle. The watch has an eu sim card in it, i took this out and put in a giffgaff pay as you go sim card (you can use any sim card that allows gps tracking). My daughter likes the look of the watch and it’s handy that she can call us through it in emergencies. The tracking is also accurate, which gives us piece of mind now my daughter is starting to go out to play without us. This is a good tracking watch, although it doesn’t have many other features. It’s a good quality watch, but i think it’s a bit expensive.

Vodafone V-Kids Watch – Good idea, poor execution

Son loves his new smart watch. Well made, location accuracy not always the best but my iphone xs max is sometimes off too. The general location coupled with voice notification should be enough if we needed to local our son. Worthy purchase if you can buy it on offer like i did. Not to sure it’s worth the full rrp. Setup isn’t straightforward so be prepared to spend sometime setting it up. Once the product is all set up it really is a good piece of kit, it takes little time to go through the process with the vodafone sim but it is worth doing. It is easy to voice message and gives me peace of mind with the sos function built in, the games are a good feature to keep the little one entertained. The gps tracking works well with the vodafone signal and no problems so far. Love this, it’s a brilliant well designed product but the battery life is very disappointing. Esta muy bien, yo se lo he comprado a mis hijos y es casi exactoen la posición aunque podrian mejorar la interface e incluso

Motast Smart Watch : Works exactly as you would expect

Bought this watch as a gift for hubby, and it is keeping him very happy. Not only it looks good (and very handsome) on his wrist, the battery life is long enough, he has so far only charged once when it first arrived, and it has been going strong ever since. Have yet to try the other functions, but to be honest, for us, the good look and long battery life is the two most important factors when comes to choosing a watch. Loloverall, very happy with this purchase, highly recommend it. I loved itarrived in brilliant condition and the very next day after i brought it too, arriving in a sturdy solid box making it very secure and safe from any knocks and bruisesi bought this beautiful watch for my husband.
