Garmin Instinct Solar : everything i’ve ever wanted in a watch!

My two year old vivoactive pete tong, so time for a new one. I’m one of those people who likes to wear the same watch for all my activities, so the rugged nature and solar capability are what attracted me to the instinct. Button functionality follows the same principles of the edge520, so easy for me to adjust to. I wera it 24×7 and hardly know it’s there. The big change from the vivo is the screen type. It is not a touch screen and not colour, so initially feels a bit retro. Now i am used to it what i do like is the amount of data on tap, linked with the connect app. – it seems to work better with the app, better than the vivo (3). Battery life is a big win – at least a week, depending on activity, up to two without use of gps etc. There is none of the unwanted ‘light’ at night – the vivi lights up when you move.

Ich nutze bereits die fr 245 und bin mit dieser sehr zufrieden. Diese nutze ich vornehmlich als laufuhr da ich sonst eigentlich keiner anderen fitnessaktivität nachgehe. Die instinct solar ist etwas größer als die fr 245 und bietet natürlich auch einiges mehr an funktionen. Die einbindung in die garmin connect app ging super flott und war kein problem. Der tragekomfort ist dank silikonarmband auch nicht zu bemängeln. Von der optik her kann man den outdoor-charakter definitiv nicht von der hand weisen. Aber auch von der robustheit her ist die instinct solar gut, das kann ich sogar bestätigen, denn sie ist mir tatsächlich schon zwei mal runtergefallen, einmal auf die fliesen, und einmal draußen auf’s pflaster. Und bei letzteren sturz sogar auf dem display gelandet. Aber, kein kratzer zu sehen. Zum glückwas das gps angeht, wir wohnen ziemlich ländlich und das gps-signal wird innerhalb weniger sekunden gefunden (meist so in 5-6 sekunden) und funktioniert ohne nennenswerte abweichungen.

Die garmin instinct solar wartet mit einer einmaligen leistung auf. Der hersteller hat anhung im bereich “sport und fitness” und bietet dem nutzer eine vielzahl an bequemlichkeiten und zusätzen, die gleich beeindrucken. Vor allem die gps-funktion ist unglaublich zuverlässig und absolut konstant. Hier hakt und verliert sich nichts. Die darstellung in der app ist sehr durchdacht und lässt sich vor allem in längeren zeitlichen intervallen visualisieren, als ich es von der konkurrenz kenne. Man kann seine trainingseinheiten nicht nur strukturieren, sondern auch wirklich sehr gut analysieren. Die herzfrequenzmessung im leistungszustand und den puls bei nichtaktivität. Unschlagbar ist natürlich die akkuleistung. Ich gehe 4x die woche laufen, dazwischen tägliche walkingtouren. Mit der ensprechenden funktion folgt die uhr intensiver der körperlichen anstrengung und ich komme trotzdem eine ganze woche ohne aufladen aus.

Für meinen mann suchte ich schon seit einer gefühlten ewigkeit nach einer smartwatch, die robust, langlebig, nicht allzu bruchgefährdet und zugleich optisch ansprechend ist. Die garmin instinct solar verspricht nicht zu viel und ist entsprechend wunderbar für outdoor-aktivitäten geeignet. Die uhr ist sogar bis zu 100m wasserdicht. Die uhr ist sehr gut verarbeitet. Das gehäuse ist sehr stabil, wobei das armband sehr schön flexibel ist. Die uhr liegt entsprechend gut am handgelenk an. Optisch hat die uhr einen starken outdoor-charakter. Diese optik ist geschmackssache, für den alltag ist die uhr tatsächlich etwas zu sportlich. Das display ist sehr übersichtlich gestaltet. Die steuerung der uhr funktioniert einwandfrei und kann nach einer eingewöhnungsphase intuitiv vorgenommen werden.

Escludendo le funzioni ‘smart’ abbinabili al cellulare, a me del tutto indifferenti (per quanto provate e funzionanti) ho riscontrato buone funzionalità dei sensori sia fisiologici (pulsossimetro/battito cardiaco) sia ambientali. Il tutto nei limiti tecnologici attuali: non mi lamento dell’inesattezza dell’altimetro di 5/10 metri, così come il sensore bussola starato al primo avvio (è bastato tararlo di nuovo ed ora funziona perfettamente). Non è touch ma questo per me è un vantaggio: la selezione delle funzioni è sempre precisa con i tasti fisici e si possono usare guanti senza problemi. Alcune funzioni non sono intuitive come per i classici orologi digitali sportivi, ma non impossibili, ad esempio per crono, timer e sveglia bisogna leggere le istruzioni e fare un minimo di pratica (o guardare le numerose guide video presenti su internet), mentre l’attivazione della funzione gps e la memorizzazione delle coordinate è semplice (l’aggancio dei satelliti anche in condizioni ottimali non è velocissimo ma accettabile). Notevole la personalizzazione e la scelta di visione delle informazioni sul quadrante, possiamo vedere qualsiasi cosa presente come funzione/sensore (ricordandosi che l’accesso ai sensori consuma preziosa carica). In poche parole pur usando 1/10 delle potenzialità posso essere contento dell’acquisto, preso ad un prezzo ribassato rispetto al listino di un 10%, ha in fin dei conti un ottimo rapporto costo/prestazioni. La ricarica solare funziona ma non è certo sufficiente a svincolare dalla ricarica da parete per oltre 20 giorni di normale uso (ripeto in modalità risparmio energetico, quindi senza collegamento con lo smartphone), ma a mio avviso accettabile se si usano le funzioni di alto consumo (gps) per poco tempo alla settimana (2 ore circa) e si svolge attività al sole. Complessivamente sono soddisfatto, pur essendo abituato ‘male’ col vecchio orologio, pieno di funzioni e sensori (escludendo il gps), che non aveva mai bisogno di ricarica. Un plauso ad amazon, velocissima nella spedizione e nel proporre un prodotto perfettamente conforme alla sua descrizione.

Habe mir die uhr gekauft weil ich eine smartwatch mit langer akkulaufzeit haben wollte. Dieses modell hat mich voll überzeugt ohne das doppelte zu bezahlen. Die sportfunktionen sind ausreichend und das gps ist sehr genau. Der tragecomfort ist angenehm und das display ist zu jeder tageszeit gut sichtbar.

Für meine zwecke ungeeignet, jedoch sehr wertig. Smartwatchfunktion ohne app nicht gegeben.

Sicuramente non è certo l’orologio da indossare con l’abito elegante ma se gli avete dato uno sguardo è perché state cercando un orologio robusto con una buona autonomia e questo sicuramente fa al caso vostro vista la dotazione di sensori veramente completa e affidabile. Una carica completa mi ha consentito due settimane d’uso con il cardio e la rilevazione delle attività sempre attive, più qualche lettura saltuaria con il saturimetro a cui si aggiungono circa 18 ore di ciclismo (cardio+gps+sensore cadenza+notifiche sull’orologio) e circa 3 ore di nuoto (cardio+gps)onestamente speravo che la ricarica solare potesse incidere in maniera maggiore sulla durata della batteria, ma in realtà come anche indicato nelle note della garmin, la ricarica solare aiuta più che altro a mantenere intatta l’autonomia nei giorni di utilizzo in cui non si fa ricorso al gps o al saturimetro in quanto questi sensori sfruttano la batteria in maniera abbastanza intensa e portano comunque ad una diminuzione dell’autonomia anche se l’orologio è esposto in pieno sole. Forse meriterebbe una mezza stella in meno per il prezzo comunque abbastanza alto e per l’indicatore della durata della batteria troppo ottimista quando l’orologio è esposto al sole, ma complessivamente provenendo da un forerunner 235 che dovevo attaccare alla presa ogni due uscite in bici, sono abbastanza soddisfatto, l’orologio funziona bene, i sensori sono precisi e affidabili e la durata della batteria molto buona, in definitiva un buon acquisto.

Je l’ai reçue il y a deux jours. Ayant déjà une garmin vivo active hr depuis plusieurs années je n’ai pas eu de problèmes avec la mise en route et la connexion au téléphone. Par contre à l usage elle n’est carrément pas simple. On est loin de la vivoactive. Certes elle est très puissante mais les tâches simples doivent rester simples et ce n’est pas vraiment le cas. En plus le manuel d’utilisateur en ligne n’est pas bien fait. On a beau suivre les consignes mais ça ne suffit pas. C’est finalement après au moins 30 minutes que j’ai pu lancer ma première activité.

De momento estoy muy contento, es lo que buscaba un reloj que no hace falta cargar, usándolo normalmente y si le toca el sol siempre está cargado a tope.

I had my eye on one of these for ages and it’s fantastic. Looks tough and rugged, it’s a big watch and doesn’t disappoint. Had a few issues syncing mine when i first got it, but installed the update on the watch itself and now it’s flawless, much more accurate than the fitbit versa i had and better looking.

Ich verwende jetzt schon seit mehreren jahren diverse sportuhren und smartwatches. Angefangen hat alles mit einer einfachen polar ft7m, damals noch mit burstgurt. Anschließend war ich mehrere jahre mit einer mit einer polar m400 zufrieden, ebenfalls mit brustgurt bis ich mir schließlich vor drei jahren eine apple watch series 3 gekauft habe und diese immer noch verwende. Ich verwende die uhren meistens zum aufzeichnen meiner sportlichen aktivitäten und um mir diverse push-nachrichten vom smartphone auf der uhr anzeigen zu lassen. Heute geht es aber um die garmin instinct solar. Im lieferumfang findet man neben der uhr noch ein herstellerspezifisches ladekabel, und eine kleine bedienungsanleitung. Vor dem ersten einschalten der uhr sollte man sich die garmin connect app auf dem handy herunterladen und installieren. Die app begleitet einen durch die ersteinrichtung und zeigt anschließend auch sämtliche aktivitätsdaten und sportaufzeichnungen innerhalb der app an. Die einrichtung der uhr erfolgte ohne probleme und die kopplung mit dem smartphone gelang ebenfalls ohne probleme. Während der einrichtung wird man aufgefordert körpergröße, gewicht, geschlecht und geburtsdatum einzugeben.

Qualità e prestazioni in un orologio l’ ho utilizzato in vari sport (mtb,nuoto,corsa,camminata) gps si aggancia in pochi secondi sempre molto veloce e preciso stesso discorso per il battito cardiaco l ho trovato molto affidabile. La novita di questo modello sta tutta nel pannello solare montato sotto lo schermo che nella zona più riflettente cattura il 100% della luce invece nella parte del display il 10%. Questo consente durante le attività in cui c’è molta luce di far scaricare la batteria molto più lentamente. In oltre arrivando la modalità massima di risparmio batteria ( solo orologio tutto il resto spento ) ti consente con una giusta esposizione al sole di avere una batteria quasi infinita batteria che invece con un uso normale ( gps battito notifiche ) ti permette di fare 2 settimane che scende a 1 se si accende il sensore pulse ox durante il sonno. Passando all indossabilità è molto leggero un po’ spesso ma non da troppo fastidio non si impiglia con i vestiti. Notifiche sempre veloci e precise i più si può rispondere alle chiamate ( parlando però dal telefono ) e agli sms. Consigliato per chi vuole un orologio robusto preciso e affidabile nelle misurazioni .

Ich durfte die garmin instinct solar testen. Die uhr kommt gut verpackt in einem kleinen robusten karton zuhause an. Im lieferumfang enthalten sind die uhr, das ladekabel sowie die bedienungsanleitung. Letztere ist gut verständlich und in mehreren sprachen verfügbar. Die uhr wirkt sehr robust und ist sehr gut verarbeitet. Sie besteht aus schwarzem kunststoff und erinnert vom design ein bisschen an eine g-shock. Das armband ist ebenfalls aus kunststoff und kann super variabel eingestellt werden. Von extra groß bis extra klein. Finde ich richtig superdie uhr kann problemlos mit dem smartphone gekoppelt werden.

Die garmin „instinct solar“ ist eine bis 100 meter wasserdichte gps-smartwatch mit solar-ladefunktion, bei welcher der akku für bis zu 54 tage laufzeit reichen kann. Sie besitzt viele sport-/fitnessfunktionen, ermöglicht die herzfrequenzmessung am handgelenk und gibt diverse smartphone benachrichtigungen an den träger weiter. Positiv:- lange laufzeit mit einer akkuladung- viele funktionen wir gps, gesundheits- und schlaftracking usw. – sehr gute verarbeitung- stabiles gehäuse und flexibles armband- höhenmessung, barometer, kompass und laufwegtracking- gute menünavigation nach eingewöhnungsphase- software mit vielen auswertungen und analysefunktionennegativ:- keine touchfunktion- schwer ablesbares monochromes display- schwache beleuchtung- keine akustische benachrichtigung- ladekabel mit stecker statt per magnethalter oder induktiondie garmin „instinct solar“ ist eine uhr welche sicherlich geteilte eindrücke hinterlässt. Zum einen hat sie wirklich viele interessante funktionen, welche gerade im outdoorbereich ihre freunde finden wird. Angefangen bei der solargestützten aufladung welche treckingfans sicher auf längeren trails zu schätzen wissen, über die trainingsfunktionen für sporttreibende bis hin zu gesundheitsmessungen für die welche da bedarf haben. Leider ist die ladung per sonne nun aufgrund des wetters nicht wirklich möglich gewesen, aber die extra solar-ladeanzeige verbuchte zumindest mal beim autofahren einige wenige ausschläge, wenn es mal etwas heller wurde. Die angegebenen 51 tage sind sicherlich der absolute idealfall, die wirklich laufzeit ist hingegen abhängig von den eingesetzten sensoren und funktionen, so änderte sich zb. Die angezeigte laufzeit von 21 auf 11 tage, nachdem die nächtliche blutsauerstoffmessung aktiviert wurde. Der vorteil ist hier, dass man so auch die laufzeit nach bedarf, durch deaktivieren verschiedener sensoren, verlängern kann.

I got this about 6 months after buying an fr245, but since running became too painful, i took up indoor rowing. Whilst the fr245 has these same activities, it’s so geared towards running with training plans, metrics etc that i just felt that i wasn’t using anything close to its full potential. Anyway, the instinct looked more suitable for hiking and has a very impressive battery life, then as i was about to pull the trigger, the solar came out. At first, the price put me off, then i read some detailed reviews which said that there were a few significant improvements to the hardware, such as pulse ox and a better hrm and gps, not to mention even better battery life due to improvements in the innards and of course the solar element. So far i’m very happy with the watch. It’s clunky, chunky and retro, but it does what it needs to and has a certain charm. The screen is small, only black and white, but crams a lot of info depending what face you choose and how you customise each individual element of that face. With the fr245, when i was rowing, i used the watch activity as well as the much better separate rowing app, as the 245 shows the vo2 max and training load, which i liked to follow. Unfortunately, the instinct doesn’t have these metrics, so i don’t need the rowing activity any more, but it was extremely basic anyway.

A volte anche se le mie pulsazioni superano i 150 durante una corsa o su un treadmill segna 110, altre volte sembra avere una stima più precisa con un errore di 5-6 battiti. Guardano su sito garmin ho seguito tutte le indicazioni: ho pelle chiara, senza tatuaggi, nessun sbalzo termico, sensore pulito e orologio ben allacciato ne troppo stretto ne troppo largo e comunque sempre sensore a contatto con il polso. Inoltre l’attività forza è di un’inutilità imbarazzanteedit: se si indossa l’orologio all’interno del polso, la pelle più sottile permette una stima molto più precisa delle pulsazioni, informazione che non è presente da nessuna parte sulla documentazione.

Tortuous menu system- even though i’m a long term garmin gps user it too me quite a while to find my way around the instinct options. On the plus side i’ve found the hrm and gps surprisingly accurate when compared to other much larger garmin devices such as edge and montana (using hr chest strap) as it doesn’t have a “proper” map presentation i can’t see it being useful for pre-planned cycling navigation but it’s just as good as the larger devices for recording rides. An excellent product for the price and virtually unnoticeable on my wrist.

La batteria è fortemente condizionata dalla durata di utilizzo delle attività, ma sono soddisfatto. Per chiarezza, aggiungo che è il mio primo smartwatch e che quindi non ho termini di paragone.

Having wanting to treat myself to a smart watch with great features and battery life the instinct solar ticked all the boxes. It looks great, is rugged has great functionality and the extended battery life is a plus for me as i often work away all week so need to worry about an extra charging cable. I moved from a fitbit as i was having issues with the gps functionality and this seems to be up to the grade however i have had some issues from day 1 with it not synching my activities saying ‘filetransfererror timeout’. I raised this with garmin and they suggested to try all the usual steps such as restarting watch, phone, disabling and re-enabling blue-tooth which after a while makes it synch but has recently gone for nearly 1 week before synching then all my activities came flooding in all at once also populating strava.Restarting things all the time is not something i will put up with for long so hopefully this issue will resolve asap as i do really like all other aspects of this watch and would be sad to have to return it as a failure.

Ich besaß vor 20 jahren eine casio- uhr, die keine batterien brauchte, weil sie ein solarfeld eingebaut hatte. Ihr wisst schon, mit allen funktionen, die man als herawachsender braucht, kompass und barometer und sowas ;-)heute bin ich etwas älter und tracke gerne meine herzfrequenz beim sport. Die schlichtheit der uhr von damals, die reduktion der funktionen auf das nötige in kombination mit widerstandsfähigkeit und laufdauer habe ich seitdem vermisst. Ein erster lichtblick war die erste instinct, allerdings hatte die den damals schon alten hr- sensor verbaut, mit dem ich durchschnittliche erfahrungen gemacht hatte. So entschied ich mich für ein forerunner 245 mit der neuen hardware. Aber jetzt hat das warten ein ende: ich halte eine graue instinct solar in den händen, und es kann gut sein, dass sie meinen traum wahrwerden lässt. Monochromes display, verbrauchsprofile mit prognose der batterielaufzeit, kein schnickschnack und beste hardware. Eine fenix light für den rest, der keine vergleichbar 800 euronen für eine uhr ausgibt. Wie geilich werde hier weiter über vor- und nachteile berichten.

After previously having used the standard garmin instinct, i was already keen on the looks and functions and now with the extended battery, i can use it for longer between charges (in fact i’ve just managed more than 2 weeks with over 24hrs if gps tracking on various activities. )i have not really used the pulse ox sensor but everything else has been on (except gps which i only use on activities)the gps accuracy is great and they seem to have fixed the glitch that makes it look like you have climbed 8,000ft when you have only really done 2,000.

Lo sto utilizzando da qualche settimana e sto apprezzando molto le sue funzionalità, la durata della batteria, la leggerezza e l’estetica. Ho verificato la precisione del cardio frequenzimetro con una fascia cardio e l’ho trovata molto buona; il garmin si adatta un pò più lentamente della fascia, ma credo dipenda dall’algoritmo utilizzato. U pò meno preciso il pulsossimetro che, secondo me, sottostima la misurazione di circa 5 punti rispetto al saturimetro al dito. Quasi perfetto perchè in un dispositivo del genere e per l’impiego per cui è destinato mi sarei aspettato che fosse presente la funzione di assistenza senza dover ricorrere ad altri componenti.

Bello, resistente, leggero, molte info sullo schermo, batteria durevole. Speriamo resista nel tempo, soprattutto il sensore cardio che resta sempre attivo. Note negative che mi fanno rivedere la recensione: ossimetria sempre più bassa della realtà (92-94% invece di 96-98% del pulsossimetro da dito), barometro che salta da 1020 a 1012 bar all’improvviso con avviso temporale senza alcun senso. Spero verranno fatti aggiornamenti firmware per correggere questi errori.

Buscaba algo así , que conjugase funciones y que me acostumbra garmin , pero con algo más de batería. En este caso viniendo de un fénix 3 , sabes más o menos el funcionamiento y este no dista mucho de él , así que fácil de comprender y configurar. La carga solar le da un plus, y funciona bien y según el widget puedes comprobar su funcionamiento. Puedes configurar tus necesidades de consumo de batería , una vez te enteras y comorendes está. El gps para que os hagáis una idea del poco consumo en normal con glonas y galileo, andando 2h 30 minutos, teniendo el autopausa puesto, ha sido de un 8%. He esperado el mes para escribir mi opinión.

Gut verpackt kommt nach dem unboxing die garmin instinct solar trainingsuhr samt ladekabel und zwei kleinen booklets zum vorschein. Ein erster blick auf die uhr, die wie ich finde, optisch schonmal ein eyecatcher ist, macht neugierig auf ein schnelles installieren und nutzen der uhr. In dem kleinen, mehrsprachigen booklet werden die jeweiligen bedienschritte erklärt. Zunächst habe ich, wie empfohlen, die uhr an das ladekabel angeschloßen und mit einem externen ladestecker, der nicht im lieferumfang beinhaltet ist, aufgeladen. Bei mir hat der erste ladezyklus bis zur vollständigen ladung ca 1 1/2 stunde gedauert. Währenddessen habe ich als android nutzer die garmin connect app im play store heruntergeladen und über die app die registrierung durchgeführt. Mit dem ohne probleme durchgeführten pairing /kopplung von uhr und smartphone werden die weiteren notwendigen daten und anleitungen zur nutzung der uhr erklärt bzw. Die uhr am handgelenk ist so leicht, dass man sie kaum spürt bzw. Ich trage die uhr rechts und alle bedientaster sind mit daumen und zeigefinger der linken hand gut zu erreichen. Das elastische uhrenarmband ist für mein handgelenk weit genug bzw. Ich kann es eng genug tragen, sodass der notwendige kontakt zum optischen sensor der uhr optimal ohne fehlmessungen übertragen wird. Ich habe mich mal vorab über das internet über die vielfältigkeit der funktionen und möglichkeiten der garmin instinct solar informiert. Für die komplette nutzung brauche ich noch einige zeit und trainingsstunden bei unterschiedlichen sportarten.

Incredible watch, coming from a samsung galaxy watch this is lightyears ahead. Battery life is ridiculously good, charges quickly in the sun. Used the tracking navigation for a dog walk and it was spot on.

Solar charging, barometer, gps. . Everything i have ever wanted in a watch. A great replacement for my old casio pro trek prg-80t & my garmin foretrex 401 gps. . Its like haveing both these devices all in one with the garmin instinct solar.But with the added benefit of it being a smart watch & haveing the latest heart rate sensor built in. Haveing something that can take excelent advantage of solar energy but also has a built in gps & bread crumb map for waypoints is something iv been deraming of for about 16 years. The only downside i have for this watch is the build quality. . Definitly well build but i do wish it wasent an all plastic desine and instead incorperated metal to give it that beffer, tank feel. Not that thats rely needed tho . Im sure it will last a long time.
