Brand: Pebble Pebble Smartwatch – – The packaging was very good. Delivery very good. The actual watch is very good too.
Postage from amazon was, as usual, very timely and i was kept informed about the dispatch and delivery progress throughout. I used collect plus this time so i did not have to be at home and i didn’t have to use next day delivery – and it worked out very well. The delivery packaging was very good – giving full protection. Unlike other smart watches i’ve seen and tried out, this one has a proper strap. In fact the strap is pretty thick. It’s fully waterproof – although i’ve not tested it – and it is sweat proof. The acer smart watch i had tried previously wasn’t waterproof or even sweat proof. This pebble watch face doesn’t look cheap despite it being made of plastic and it is a nice size – again unlike on the acer smart watch i had tried out. Its not ultra light weight either – so having a bit of weight helps to make it feel like a proper watch. It has 4 very proper buttons – back, up, select, and down.
Should be good – but disappointing. I enjoyed using it for about 4 weeks and then realised that the battery was not charging up as it should. To be fair, the manufacturers have sent me a new cable. However it has just arrived after 3 weeks’ wait and has not solved the problemnot sure if i’m going to be able to use the watch in future or if i will just have to bin it and put it down to experience. Update: they did replace the watch and it lasted for just over a year before the display became distorted. This was definitely not due to any misuse. I never dropped it or even used it around water. I gather from various forums that it is not an unusual problem. Anyway, it was out of warranty so i have now binned it and gone for an apple watch instead.
I purchased the pebble to replace the one i have been using for 8 months. For no reason the display became corrupt with dashed lines across the screen. I love this watch, the style, the apps, everything and although the first one is still under warranty i decided to order another (the price has gone down by £20) because i have no idea how long it will take to return it to pebble etc. On arrival of the new one, i noticed that the display was also unreadable but i put the watch on charge and then factory reset it. All appeared well and i wore the watch all day with no problem. When i got home after work, i took it off and left it on a table. After an hour the display was corrupt again, again a reset (3 button) put it right but leaving it alone caused the display to fail. I have returned it to amazon for replacement and we will see what turns up. After a google search it appears this is a known problem on the early versions but has now been corrected5/2/16 amazon quickly replaced the watch and all has been well for some time. And have now uprated it from the original 1 star. How long it lasts, we will have to see. A great plus it reminds me if the phone it out of range, stops me leaving the phone at work.
There are basically two reasons to get this:1) you want a fitness/sleep tracker – this does both and more. 2) you love or hate your smartphone and want a more personalised experience – this lets you control what notifications you’ll see whether its important work emails or phone calls. I can see who is calling by looking at my wrist and press a button to answer or decline. Means you never miss calls as you can answer before you’ve even got to your phone, or you can see a message isn’t important and don’t have to bother taking your phone out on the street at night. Comes with a heap of features. Pebble apps i’ve relied on include london transport app which tells you when the bus will come and can remember your bus and tube stops. The misfit fitness tracker works brilliantly to track your sleep and step count. No need for a dedicated fitness device. I shudder to say ‘wearable’. The app doesn’t even need your phone to workthere’s even an great app which you can use to set a gps marker (uses your phone’s gps signal) at your location and will then direct you back to it from wherever you are.
I’ve been using this for about 8 months. As a watch it’s great – clear face with lots of choices, comfy to wear, and reasonable battery life (about 5 days). Some of the pebble apps (mostly free) are frankly rubbish, but there are plenty to go at and you can soon fill the available slots with useful stuff and a fair sprinkling of useable extras. Not all of them work reliably – you soon find out and the best policy is to dump them quickly. However pairing (with an iphone 5) is increasingly becoming a pain. There are 2 bluetooth connections which have to be re-made if the watch or the phone is powered down. Neither seem to be automatic and some sort of intervention is usually required which involves going to the pebble app. The first is usually ok with the phone and the watch pairing fairly quickly. The second, for notifications (which is the main reason you want a smart watch) has become increasingly random in its behaviour. Sometimes it pairs, sometimes it doesn’t, sometimes it says it’s not paired when it is.
Received this product yesterday and i must say how nice it looks and how easy it is to set up answer the app store is excellent and if you want it for a watch then this is the one for you because there are so many downloadable watch faces never seen so many and there are more features on this watch that are very useful like notifications like text, missed calls ,alarms and it’s waterproof to glad i chose this product over other smart watches ok you can not text or answer calls with this watch but at the end of the day that’s what your phone is for this watch does what it said and does it very well thanks guys merry xmas .
It is a crying shame that fitbit will not be continuing the pebble line. Considering how old this pebble watch is it still performs really well and is still one of the best smartwatches out there. I nearly returned mine for connectivity issues only to realise that it was my phone that had the problem. I highly recommend anyone to purchase one of these pebble devices you will not be dissapointef. Side not my max batter life from 100% to 0% was six and half days with days of the week clockface and email, fb, messages and phone calls bring pushed to the device.
As a waiter who keeps his phone in his pocket, it’s really useful to know whether the buzzing in my pocket is just a notification from facebook or whether it’s a text alerting me to a family emergency. Beware though, if you’re on a facebook group chat with quite a few people, it can be infuriating, as there will be twice as many buzzes as you are used to: one from your phone and one from your watch. The subtle vibration on my wrist is good for when my phone is on silent across the room or even in my pocket; sometimes i don’t hear or feel it buzz. I bought a screen protector for mine as i was terrified that the screen would get scratched, but it doesn’t detract much from the appearance. The only issue i have is that sometimes the display scrambles itself and i have to scroll through the menus a few times to get everything back to normal. I haven’t observed a cause yet, so for now i’m just assuming that it does this randomly. Not a big issue, though as it still functions absolutely fine. Battery life is about one week to a week and a half. Charging doesn’t take long, but the cable is held to the device with a relatively weak magnet, so i do have to be conscious of moving it too much.
I bought this watch for my husband’s birthday and i’m thrilled with his reaction so spoke to him for comments before compiling this review. Style – the watch is simple but styish. It looks nicer in person than it does in the photos. It’s light, comfortable to wear all day and very modernprice – i think the price is very reasonable for what you get. You can get a normal watch for much more money. When you actually think about the capabilities of the watch, it’s very well priced. Ease of use – hubby had the watch set up and running within no time, and didn’t need to read the instructions. The watch is designed for compatability with smartphones so the likelihood is, if you’re getting this watch you will have enough knowledge to just get up and running. General – all in all this is a great gadget which is stylish and comfortable and good value for money. There aren’t that many apps for it which is a shame, i imagine when apple release their version it will have many more apps but it will also be a lot more expensive no doubt.
