Garmin 010-01755-03 Vivosmart 3 Smart Activity Tracker – Awesome for daily use, but poor experience in water
Had a garmin now for 6 months and while i’ve generally liked it, here are my thoughts:good:* pretty good step counting, hr monitoring etc. Basically, it does what it says on the tin. * great for syncing with phone – really like the fact that even when my phone is on silent it will buzz for incoming calls. I leave my phone on silent all the time now. (iphone)* app is pretty good, though it doesn’t work with polar hr sensors which i like to use for serious exercise (particularly intervals/running/etc. I realise they have their own thing but they let us sync with myfitnesspal why not polar?. I use a 3rd party sync app thing instead. Average:* the plastic strap can be irritating, if you strap it hard enough for it to accurately read hr. )* some of the stuff in the app doesn’t work for this one, such as custom courses (i suppose because no gps). Bad:* strap lasted only 6 months before tearing at base of the computery part, and then breaking completely. Normally this would be a 2 star job but they’ve offered to replace the device so i can’t complain too much.
Update:after circa one year the watch strap has broken. Not impressed as it has been well looked after, however full marks to amazon for an efficient no quibble replacement. Reduced the score to 3 stars from 4 stars. Good, but room for improvement. The good bits: – it’s fairly small and discreet. – most functions work well – battery life is good, i only charge mine twice a week. – step counting pretty accurate. – setup (syncing via android phone) was easy and works perfectly, also seen multiple s/w upgrades go through so being actively updated. The flaws: – the textured finish means it catches on shirts, and worse bed sheets. It’s just not usable to track sleep.
Superb little device and the app is great. I bought two of these – one for the wife and one for myself and they have really helped with our getting back to fitness. Minus one star because of the display which is unreadable in sunlight. Other than that they are accurate and very good for what they are designed for.
I’ve had this for 6 months now, and i have to admit i am disappointed. I bought it for the waterproofing and heart rate. Here are the issues i’ve experienced so far:sleep tracking is totally inaccurate. I can understand why it would regard me lying in bed reading as sleeping, but sitting up watching tv?auto tracking of exercise seems to have stopped working properly. It reads my walking pace as running, and about 1 minute after starting to track the activity, it saves the activity – even though i’ve have not stopped moving. If i manually start and activity, it works ok – but auto tracking does not always work well. Vo2 max tracking stopped working for a while, then started working again. Customer service leaves a lot to be desired. I contact customer service after i have read help files, faq and forums. Suggesting i do this after i have contacted a customer service is irritating, to say the least.
Moderate quality for the price. In all honesty there are better value products out there. Personally i didn’t like the app other people have different opinions so try out the garmin app first before buying.
Fits well, covers all the main areas i wanted. Fitness, heart rate, sleep vo2 calories etc. It’s comfortable and battery lasts best part of a week. Downsides – screen is poor in any kind of sun. Although waterproof it doesn’t work properly for swimming. I would recommend it at £80.
- Vivosmart for about a month now and its a good produce for what I wanted it for
- Generally good until the band broke
- Good, but room for improvement
The battery in the beginning was holding ~1 week, less than half year later needs to be charged every 4-5 days. It’s your call whether it’s enough for such device. The heartbeat seems to be accurate. Though, not accurate in the water, and that’s not something of manufacturer promising :)if you will wear it in the water, you will notice that water splashes are controlling the watch (seems like touch screen technology is accepting water splashes as touches of the finger). This becomes quite annoying when swimming. Afterwards you can see multiple 1-10 seconds exercises recorded for running, etc. :)for daily use i am happy with this purchase. Got used to it, and finally barely missing any calls, which has happened quite often in the past.
I’ve gone through about 5 or 6 different trackers since they started appearing. I had the vivosmart hr+ prior to this one and, if the screen hadn’t decided it had lost the will to live, would probably be wearing it still. Specifically, i bought it because it’s water proof, had a heart-rate coherence function and an associated breathing up. I think everyone should read alan watkins ‘coherence’ to see why this is important from a health point of view. The ‘stress’ monitor is reasonably good and seems to match up with how i’ve been feeling, and is useful in identifying when i actually am more stressed than i feel. The heart rate monitor is better than in my previous model. The app is the same – which i don’t mind at all – though with added graphs for stress, etc. The device connects better with my android phones and tablets than – i’m going there – all of my previous devices, and the battery life is a good 5 -7 days depending on what i’m doing.
I have had the vivosmart for about a month now and its a good produce for what i wanted it for. Its got a lot of negative reviews on here, so i wanted to give a review. Its good for what i need it for, if not quite perfect. I do think some negative reviews are from some people expecting it to do things it wasn’t designed for, or not figuring out the settings / app. I already have a 2-3 year old polar watch that has gps and measures heart rate with a chest strap. So i didn’t need this for gps outdoor running. This is not a serious runners watch, as far as i am concerned. I got this due to my health insurance being linked to health activities. So i wanted something that could be warn 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to measure steps and heart rate. Being in a stressful job stress measurements and sleep data is useful, but i saw this as a bonus rather than crucial.
First time i have purchased a device of this type, so i have nothing previous to compare it with. Nonetheless, on the whole its not bad, only real issues link to blue tooth connectivity being lost daily and it not picking up when i am on the exercise bike or stepperpositives: the alarm if you have been sat down for too long which reminds you to move and a huge number of reports available. In truth this device is worth the money. Its made a real difference to my general fitness due to the varied number of reports and reminders, all of which motivate you to do more :).
This is so much better then my old fitbit. The battery lasts 3-4 days, it’s comfortable and has everything on it i need and moreit’s great for tracking weight training, cardio, walking, running etc. The only thing this one cant track is swimming but it’s waterproof and it’ll still add to your weekly intensity minutes which is great. The garmin app is unbelievably easy to use too.

I have had it for two days now. A bit difficult but seems to work well so far. Quite happy with the product.
Not so sure about the accuracy of the heart monitor. It seems to register a high heart rate just because i’m using my hands. The best thing about it is that i use it to alert me if my hr is rising too much just walking about, as i have to keep my heart rate low. I set the buzzer for 8 beats lower than my max allowed and so this way i am more likely to get notified because all of the trackers i’ve tried have a delay and i hope a lower setting helps combat that. Wish other trackers provided hr monitoring with a buzzer or beep (besides alpha mio which are huge and uncomfortable to wear on a small wrist). Fitbit needs to get with the program.
Only had it a week so still trying to get to grips with it. Accessing the various activities and information involves tapping or swiping the small screen which does not always respond as required and can be frustrating, also, being long sighted i cannot read the screen without glasses which i don’t wear whilst exercising. This said, i am learning to love it. You do need to connect it to a phone, but i had no problem downloading the app and setting it all up and i am finding the information it provides useful. It tracks things like sleep and stress levels as well as a whole range fitness activities.
