After doing a bit of research and reading review after review, the tamron 24070 g2 was my lens of choice when i needed to upgrade my “go-to” portrait/product lens. So far, it lives up to most of the hype. It looks nice, produces very crisp images and has very nice bokeh. The autofocus is not quite as fast as expected after all the glowing reviews, and the focus/zoom rings do not feel as smooth as i wanted in a lens of this caliber. Other weird little things to note: the zoom ring turns the opposite direction of my canon lenses, which takes a little getting used to. The provided tulip/hood has a nice locking mechanism, but does not want to go on as easily as it should, and the lens feels very heavy for its size. Overall it has a nice, high-quality feel and seems to produce sharp, impressive images. I just wish the autofocus was a little bit better.
Practical for landscapes and portraits alike. I love the compression close to 70mm, but what you can fit into frame at 24 is lovely. It is one of my heaviest lenses, however, which makes it less appealing to travel with as my go-to.

Add on top of this the image stabilization and the fantastic minimum focus distance and this lens is a flat-out beast at this price point.

I’ve been putting this camera through its paces and i have to say this is the 24-70 that you want but canon never puts out. I have the canon 24-70 and it’s a fine lens. But it doesn’t have image stabilization. It’s images are every bit as good and, as you would expect, there are more keepers because of the image stabilization (called vc on tamron). I have the canon 24-70 f4, which is also a very good lens (especially when i travel abroad because of its light weight and quality) that is image stabilized. The tamron 24-70 g2 is well-built (it is heavy), it’s sharp, it has fast autofocus in every light situation i’ve tried it in, and it has excellent bokeh. There is one weird thing: the zoom ring is in a different place than the canon 24-70 lenses and you turn it clockwise to extend the lens to 70mm instead of the counter-clockwise.
This thing is probably the best 24-70 that has is and doesn’t break the bank. Has great image quality, good bokeh, almost no chromatic aberration and built like a tank. Almost too much so as it’s very heavy. Only gripes are that it’s got a super narrow focus ring which is kind of hard to use manually. Also it’s auto focus sometimes hunts, i say it’s accurate 90-95% of the time so sometimes it’s not the most reliable for that. But other than that, this is a great value for price. Especially with that is that does sooo well even at low shutter speeds. A great lens for photo and video.
So overall i love this lens. The autofocus is snappy as can be and the colors are great. The only criticism i have of this lens is it is not super duper sharp like some of my other lenses. Don’t get me wrong it still takes a great photo but if you’re going to pixel peep you’ll notice it’s not incredibly sharp mainly at under f4. Still i’m incredibly happy with my purchase especially for the money.
As a massive lover of canon’s pink rings i was a little hesitant on grabbing this one particular. Presently have the older model and have utilised the canon edition on a number of weddings. Really took a chance on this lens. I am a professional, so every job and every shot matters. I have used the canon 24-70 for well over 10years-(maybe closer to 20??) and it is/was a core of my business. If canon had made an is version of their lens, i would have bought it and it would have been worth the price. It does have the reverse zoom, which still bothers my body memory, but really, it has performed well. The image quality “feels” different, not bad, just different. And certainly still in the pro category. My canon 24-70 had been recently serviced, so my lens was probably just as good as it always had been. But i was missing shots because of focus issues. I have basically not missed a shot (due to focus) since i started using this tamron. Apparently it was just me that needed a little extra stabilization, and this lens appears to be delivering.

And last but not least – vibration compensation.The major lacking item from the canon version was is. Now, there is a high quality f/2. 8 24-70 with vibration compensation. First impressions – fantastic. Update [05/20] – i sold this lens in december, bought a canon 24-70 f/2. 8l ii when i had the budget and when i started clicking more portraits than nature. I loved the sharpness of the canon lens but i started noticing that i was getting more blurry images and had to be very conscious while choosing the shutter speed. Even the speeds like 1/120s or 1/160s were not safe enough. One would argue that you need to have stable hands but then i never had to be that conscious before as all the lenses i have had lenses had is. So i started missing the tamron version again. I sold the canon one and bought a new tamron 24-70 f/2. When i compared the shots from canon and tamron i didn’t find differences that would sway my choice in favor of canon.
